FYI, let's limit the comps to the first 2 pages, I need this thread to be used for chatter and what games members would like to pick up or split. Service thread getting way to much chatter. Ty.

As is our custom, let’s focus on the top two series in the American and National League slate this weekend.

MLB Top Weekend Power Trends 7/24-7/26

With the trade deadline of July 31st rapidly approaching, baseball will continue to define its contenders and pretenders this weekend. In the National League, only one of the three divisions offers a compelling pennant race, the Central, where four teams are separated by two games in the loss column. In the American League, there is significantly more drama, with all three division races much in play. The Central takes center stage again there though over the next three days, with Chicago visiting Detroit for four games. The teams go into the weekend set tied atop the standings. Read on as we look at the action in both leagues’ Central Divisions, and highlight the Top StatFox Power Trends you’ll want to consider as you fill out your baseball wagering cards.

The N.L. Central Division is as tight as any in recent memory as we get ready to wrap up the month of July. St. Louis paces the standings but will be hard pressed to hang on to that spot as it visits red-hot Philadelphia this weekend. The defending champs have won 15 of their last 17 games to take control of the East. The Cardinals meanwhile are in the midst of a tough stretch that sees them take on not just one, but three hot teams including Houston and Los Angeles. Philadelphia will be looking to extend a 4-game winning streak over St. Louis dating back to last season.

Speaking of the Astros, they are at home taking on the Mets, having reached a season-high 3-games over .500. Houston comes off a key 3-game sweep of the Cardinals. Meanwhile, things aren’t so rosy in New York, as the Mets are just 7-16 in their last 23 games. Perhaps the only good news for the Mets is that they will be going with Johan Santana in Game 1 of this set, and SANTANA is 23-3 (+16.2 Units) against the money line vs. NL teams scoring 4.3 or less runs/game.

The other two teams that remain in the thick of the crowded N.L. Central are the Cubs and Brewers. Chicago is back at home this weekend, hosting the fading Reds who are on a prolonged slump of 13-23 since mid-June. Milwaukee is playing nearly as poorly as Cincinnati and is on the verge of falling out of the playoff picture. Thankfully for the Brew Crew, a 7-game homestand, which includes four games vs. Washington, starts on Monday. Before that however, Milwaukee will look to kick start itself against Atlanta this weekend. The Brewers took two of three in Atlanta last month. Keep an eye on the total in that series, as 15 of the last 19 head-to-head meetings have gone under the total.

In the American League, the big series pits Chicago and Detroit from the Motor City. The Sox have climbed back into a first place tie with the Tigers and are riding the momentum of Mark Buehrle’s perfect game on Thursday afternoon. A day-night doubleheader will start this crucial set. Detroit hopes to get back to the pace that saw it win 26 of its first 38 home games. Chicago has climbed back into the race by winning 22 of its last 33 games. In this head-to-head series, Chicago owns the edge, going 27-17 over the last three seasons, including 12-8 in Detroit.

Now, here’s a look at those Top StatFox Power Trends you’ll want to make note of as you handicap the weekend’s games.

Saturday system comp GC-

On Saturday the Bonus Play is on the St.Louis Cardinals.Game 953 at 4:05 eastern as we shoot for 4 straight. The Cards were finally able to secure the bat they needed with the addition of M.Holiday.This move paid immediate dividends last night with an 8-1 thrashing in Philly.Holliday imediately contributed with a 4 hit night.Today the Philles qualify in a negative system that plays against home favorites off a blowout loss of 5+ runs if they scored 2 or less runs and had 10 or more left on base and todays opponent scored 5+ runs. These home favs have lost over 70% of the time.Loking at the numbers in this range the Cards are a better investment as a road dog than Philly is as a home favorite.Philly has been playing some subpar teams on their long winning surge through the month of July. The Cards are a good team and will play Philly tough. Those looking to drop the Hammer on Saturday can check out my card which features a side play with an 11-0 pitching dominator stat and a 15-0 super angle,Plus a big dog play with a 100% subset system. For the Bonus Play though take the Cardinals bol GC-

Hot Lines: Today's best MLB bets

San Francisco Giants at Colorado Rockies (-157, 9.5)

This might sound like a less-than bold prediction, but there is no way Jonathan Sanchez picks up his second career no-hitter Saturday. Not against a team that punishes left-handers like the Rockies.

Colorado is the seventh-best team in majors at hitting southpaws. The Rockies are batting .263 BA against lefties this season and have smacked 55 doubles and 32 home runs off of them.

And Sanchez wants no part of Colorado. In 36 1-3 career innings against the Rockies, Sanchez has been rocked for a staggering 33 runs. However, he has yet to face them this season.

"I just have to keep fighting ,” Sanchez told the Associated Press. “Keep working, that's all."

But the numbers don’t lie – and look for history to repeat itself.

Pick: Rockies -157

Cleveland Indians at Seattle Mariners (-165, 8)

The key to this matchup is simple: Cleveland can’t hit Seattle pitching.

The Indians are a pathetic 29-for-132 (.219 BA) in four games against the Mariners this season, as they have scored an average of just 2.5 runs and struck out an average of seven times per game en route to dropping three of the meetings.

And those games were in Ohio.

In Washington, the Mariners are one of the best home pitching teams in baseball. The pitching staff is allowing a home ERA of just 3.29 and has yielded a major league-low 146 earned runs in their on park this year. Opponents also are batting just .236 BA at Safeco Field this season.

The Indians are one of the better hitting teams in the game. Just don’t expect them to show it this weekend.

Pick: Seattle -165

Streaking and Slumping Pitchers

Streaking

Tommy Hanson (Atlanta Braves)

Think of the 22 year old’s recent, 10-day stint down in the Single-A Carolina League like taking a high performance car into the shop: a powerful engine sometimes needs a tuneup.

After racking up a record of 4-0 in his first six games, Hanson (5-0, 3.00 ERA) struggled in a 7-6 loss to Colorado, prompting a procedural move to demote him and help the team adjust its roster and add another reliever. During the time in the minors he faced no batters, but worked off the mound with pitching coach Roger McDowell at Turner Field.

And the move has helped Hanson get his mojo back. In his most recent start, an 11-3 win over San Francisco, he allowed just three runs on five hits over seven innings and struck out 11 batters.

"I think this is the best my arm's felt," Hanson told the Associated Press. "I felt like I was running out of gas but I wanted to battle through. I always want to stay in the game."

Edwin Jackson (Detroit Tigers)

The right-hander appears to finally be reaching his potential. The 25 year old entered the season with opponents batting better than .271 BA against him in more than 100 games. But as he's improved his command, his numbers have gotten dramatically better. Opponents are batting a miniscule .212 BA against him this year and Jackson is third in the AL with a 1.08 WHIP (walks + hits over innings pitched).

Jackson has yielded three or fewer earned runs in every start since May 5, including just six total in 20.1 innings this month. In his most recent outing, a 2-1 loss to the Yankees, Jackson went seven innings, allowing only a pair of solo home runs.

"Strikeouts will come, but you want quick outs all the time," Jackson told the Associated Press. "You have to pitch to contact."

Slumping

J.D. Martin (Washington Nationals)

The best news Martin had to take away from his first career start last week, was that there's plenty of room for improvement.

The 26 year old was hammered in his major league debut, yielding five runs on eight hits over just four innings. On the plus side, he did record his first major league strikeout. But only one.

The light-hitting Padres aren’t as talented as his first opponent – the Mets – but let’s just try to see if Martin can make it past the fourth.

"My cutter was spinning a little bit," Martin told the Washington Times. "But besides that, besides my balls being up a little bit, I felt OK.”

Gio Gonzalez (Oakland Athletics)

Things can’t get a whole lot worse for the left-hander.

The 23 year old was pitching so poorly that when he was demoted to the bullpen, yielding a run in only one inning was enough to get him put back in the rotation. But he should have stayed with the relievers.

Gonzalez (1-2, 9.33) was tagged for 11 earned runs on 11 hits in just 2 2-3 innings against the Twins. During that debacle, he also gave up four home runs and walked four.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago Cubs Chicago Cubs
-126 at JAMAICA > 6h.

Chicago looks for their third straight win as they take the field on Saturday afternoon. They'll have to beat Johnny Cueto who is 8-6 with a 3.67 ERA. He is 0-2 with a 12.34 ERA in his last three starts, giving up 16 runs and 24 hits in just 11.7 innings pitched. Cueto is 2-3 with a 3.66 ERA all-time against the Cubs. One of his two wins came earlier this season when the Cubs were banged up, but they are finally getting healthy and Chicago hits .299 all time against Cueto with Ryan Theriot (7-16), Derrek Lee (6-15), Geovany Soto (5-14), Alfonso Soriano (4-12) and Reed Johnson (2-5) doing the best. Chicago is 28-18 at home and 27-19 in daytime games this season.

Kevin Hart who will make his third start of the season for Chicago and he is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA as a starter, giving up just 3 runs in 10 innings of work. Hart is coming off a win over the Nationals in which he gave up two runs and five hits in five innings. He'll now be facing a struggling Cincinnati lineup that is averaging just 3.5 runs per game in their last six and 3.9 runs per game during the daytime this season. Cincinnati has lost four straight and eight of their last 10 games overall.

Chicago White Sox vs. Detroit Tigers Chicago White Sox
+139 at JAMAICA > 9h.
The White Sox were swept in a double-header on Friday versus this Tigers team but we look for them to rebound here and get the win. Chicago will send Gavin Floyd to the bump with his 8-6 record and ERA of 4.40 on the season including 4-4 on the road with an ERA of 6.03. Over his last three outings he is 2-1 with an ERA of 5.85. In his last outing he defeated Tampa Bay at home by a score of 4 to 3 pitching for 7 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 3 hits and 7 strikeouts. Floyd has dominated the Tigers over his career with a 5-0 record and an ERA of 3.55 while the Sox are 10-1 when he takes the mound versus Detroit. His last start versus the Tigers was back on June 11th and he faced today’s starter Edwin Jackson and got a 4 to 3 win pitching 8 innings giving up 1 earned run on 5 hits and 5 strikeouts. Jackson threw for 5 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 3 strikeouts in the loss. We expect another dominating performance from Gavin Floyd on Saturday as they White Sox rebound from a tough day on Friday and get back in this series with a win.

Oakland Athletics vs. New York Yankees New York Yankees
-1½-130 at BETUS > 6h.

NYY -1.5 (-133): Get down early as this play goes at 1pm EST today. The NYY go for 9th win in a row today verse a very outmatched OAK squad. Oak just traded away the best hitter on team Holiday to STL. Not good news for a team that already struggled to score runs. NYY will send Petite to the mound and he will try and repeat his last game where he went 7 innings only allowing 1 run. Petite has dominated OAK recently and for his career. Recently he has a 1.57 ERA in winning his last three starts against Oakland, including a 5-3 victory April 21 as he gave up two runs over seven innings. The veteran left-hander improved to 11-5 with a 3.24 ERA in 20 career outings versus Oakland, and 7-2 with a 2.93 ERA in 10 home starts. On the other side OAK sends Gonzalez to the plate coming off a pitiful start. He allowed 11 runs in 2 innings to MIN on Tuesday!! Gonzalez might hurt his neck today as he gives up a ton of HR's for his career and with this ballpark and lineup he faces today that spells trouble. NYY win in a easy blowout!! SCORE NYY 10 - OAK 1

(957) ATLANTA BRAVES
(958) MILWAUKEE BREWERS
Take "(957) ATLANTA BRAVES"

The Braves are delight to be back in the pennant race, after a 6-2 homestand out of the break. Said Atlanta's Chipper Jones, "We played an awesome homestand. We beat some good pitchers." They can do it again here, as Milwaukee Yovani Gallardo is decent (8-7), but walking too many batters and is in a slump. He is 0-2 his last three starts with a 6.75 ERA, walking 13 in 16 innings. Braves righty Tommy Hanson (5-0) has been huge, with a 3.00 ERA. Play the Braves.

Over 9

Price has an ERA of 7.42 in his last 3 while Tallet's ERA is 8.40 in that same span. There have been 4 overs and 2 unders in the last 3 games started. These two have played their share of unders as they have 28 unders and 11 overs in their last 39 meetings but I like the chances of an over on Saturday afternoon.

Los Angeles Angels - over Minnesota Twins

Matt Palmer does not own dominating numbers but he simply wins games as he has produced a 7-1 record this season with all wins coming as a starter. In home games Palmer is 4-1 with a respectable 4.14 ERA and although he does not produce a lot of strikeouts he has kept the Angels in most games. With the way the Angels have been hitting lately, there is a lot of leeway for the starting pitchers. The Los Angeles bullpen has been a problem area much of the season but in the last ten games the unit has posted a respectable 3.68 ERA. In Minnesota the bullpen has gone south since the all star break including a 5.79 ERA in the last ten games and multiple-runs allowed in three of the past four games. This is a tough road trip for Minnesota and the Twins are struggling to stay afloat as the offense is slipping as well. Minnesota is batting .268 in the last ten games but the Twins have lost four of the last five, including playing three extra-innings games, so this team could be a bit worn out playing the ninth straight road game. In the last ten games the Angels are batting .327 against right-handed pitching and Los Angeles has scored 83 runs in a recent 10-1 stretch. Nick Blackburn has been the Twins best pitcher this season but he allowed 13 hits and seven runs in his first start after the all star break. In road games Minnesota is just 3-8 when Blackburn starts with his ERA climbing to 4.18 and his WHIP up to 1.41. The Angels are too hot to ignore right now and even though Palmer has not had dominant stuff he should be capable of a solid effort while the Angel offense carries the way.

Play On: Atlanta Braves w/Hanson vs Gallardo

Note: The Braves and Brewers battle in Game Two of this weekend series when Tommy Hanson matches serves with Yovanni Gallardo in Milwaukee. Gallardo enters tonight game in terrible form with losses in each of his last four team starts, including three straight home losses. With Gallardo owning a 6.75 ERA in his last three starts, look for Hanson to improve to 7-2 in his team starts this season here tonight.
